Peer Control
Enterprise Data Services without Additional Cost
The PS Series’ peer control capabilities are built-in, enterprise level storage management features. Every Dell EqualLogic array includes advanced features without any need for additional licensing fees or installation of host-based software. In addition, as capabilities are added, customers under warranty or support agreements can obtain upgrades at no charge. This continuously evolving portfolio includes features such as:
- automatic load balancing
- automatic snapshot management
- automatic replication
- volume cloning
- volume management
- storage virtualization
- thin provisioning
- boot from SAN
- multi-path I/O (MPIO)
- roles-based administrative management
- historical performance trending and reporting
- tiering and pooling
Features such as the PS Group Manager and Remote Setup Wizard make management easy. Any aspect of your EqualLogic iSCSI SAN can be managed from a single administrative interface with the PS Group Manager, a web-based GUI that can be invoked from any browser. A scriptable command line interface is also supported, and standard monitoring and notification features are included. In addition, the easy-to-use Remote Setup Wizard lets you configure your PS Series SAN in minutes and add capacity online.
Automatic snapshot management includes support for up to 512 snapshots per volume, thousands per array, and read-only as well as writeable snapshots. The PS Series delivers unmatched performance in its class. Peer control leverages all relevant components in your SAN to optimize performance, not relying on components individually. With our automatic load balancing, data is seamlessly spread across all active storage resources, intelligently optimizing network connections, cache, controllers, and disk drives; as you add arrays, performance increases linearly.
Storage tiering and pooling are also included with every EqualLogic SAN, enabling you to prioritize applications by placing them on separate storage resources, each optimally configured for the required service level. Data can be moved between pools without downtime or disruption. By creating separate storage pools within a single SAN you can create an efficient, flexible, easy-to-manage storage environment.
