EqualLogic Delivers Full-Featured Archiving In A Multi-Tiered SAN

With Archiving Software Providers, EqualLogic Bridges Gap in Market for Online Archive in a Tiered SAN

Nashua, N.H.,—October 31, 2006—EqualLogic®, building on the release of its tiering capabilities within its PS Series family of storage arrays, today announced its portfolio of partner-enabled archiving solutions.  This rounds out EqualLogic’s capabilities as the premier storage and data management provider for the mid-range enterprise.  A full suite of archiving solutions from partners such as Archivas, CommVault, FilesX, KOM Networks and Mimosa Systems, operating with an EqualLogic SAN, fills a market need for online, fully featured, lower cost archiving that can be managed as one of multiple performance tiers within an iSCSI SAN. 

The availability of a broad set of archiving solutions for the PS Series is the latest step in EqualLogic’s tiered storage strategy.  Mid-sized companies can now create a tier of specialized, online archive storage within an EqualLogic iSCSI SAN that is customized to their particular business or regulatory compliance needs, before migrating data off line to tape.  The archiving tier can coexist with higher performance, primary storage tiers within a single EqualLogic SAN under one management interface.  Application data can be moved online between storage tiers.

Each of the complementary archiving partnerships enables seamless, plug-and-play integration with PS Series SANs to deliver specific solutions to address real needs within IT organizations such as basic storage resource management and compliance with regulatory guidelines including HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, and the Basel II Accord.

• Mimosa System’s NearPoint™ for Microsoft® Exchange Server product, when deployed with a PS Series SAN, unifies e-mail archiving, recovery and storage optimization in a single solution that enables eDiscovery; user search and self-service access to historical e-mail; and mailbox, message and database recovery.  With EqualLogic’s tiering capabilities, customers can store business critical email on higher performing drives and RAID sets, and then backup or archive their mail stores to more cost-efficient storage--all within a single SAN.

“By deploying the Mimosa server with EqualLogic, I’ve been able to reduce my mailbox store size by 77 percent,” said Dave Ewanchuk, manager of information services at Bull, Housser & Tupper (www.bht.com), one of the top three regional law firms in Western Canada.  “Mimosa automatically moves all of our attachments older than two weeks and larger than 600 kilobytes onto the EqualLogic PS Series SAN.  I’ve been able to improve Exchange response times for lawyers and make fast email recovery a reality.”

• Archivas Cluster (ArC™) software is a comprehensive preservation, compliance and discovery platform for fixed content such as email, medical records, financial documents, images, or scientific data.  It offers an enterprise repository with a single, global name space, immutable storage, file-level retention and other active, object-based policies.  An ArC repository is searchable by metadata and content.  ArC offers customers unprecedented deployment flexibility.  The software runs on standard data center servers and supports JBOD, RAID or SAN-based storage.  Customers avoid the proprietary lock-in of competing products because of ArC’s POSIX-compliant file system, standard file formats, and accessibility through open data protocols such as CIFS, NFS, HTTP, and WebDAV.  Whether to meet compliance mandates or governance requirements, or simply to preserve irreplaceable data for the long-term, Archivas allows customers to easily store, protect and access archived content by any number of applications across an enterprise.

• KOM Networks, a world leader in archiving and data storage management solutions, has partnered with EqualLogic to deliver simplified high-performance, highly available online archiving solutions.  KOMpliance, KOM Networks’ newest product, is designed and optimized to support the EqualLogic PS Series.  The joint solution provides a secure WORM repository for email archiving, document/content management, and other mission critical applications to allow customers to protect their data and comply with government and corporate regulations.  KOM Networks and EqualLogic’s customers are already enjoying the benefits of the joint solutions.
