EqualLogic Wins Storage Virtualisation Product of the Year at The Storage Awards 2007

PS3900XV Offers Customers Easy Management and Significant Cost Savings through Advanced Virtualisation Capabilities

LONDON, U.K. 15 June 2007 — EqualLogic®, a leading provider of enterprise-class iSCSI storage area network (SAN) solutions, has been honoured with Virtualisation Product of the Year for the PS3900XV at The Storage Awards 2007. EqualLogic was voted winner of its category by industry professionals and readers of Storage magazine, the UK's number one magazine dedicated to storage.

The PS3900XV, launched in February 2007, is part of EqualLogic's PS3000 Series, the first range of iSCSI storage arrays to feature Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) disks for high performance. The PS3900XV offers customers a completely virtualised storage environment for significantly improved management capabilities, infrastructure scalability and cost savings.

The PS3900XV delivers a high performance, 99.999% available, enterprise-class storage system that is affordable and easy to manage. It supports a virtualised server environment such as VMware Infrastructure 3 as well as demanding applications like Oracle, Exchange and SQL databases. Unlike competitive offerings, the PS3900XV includes automated management capabilities such as volume snapshotting and replication, load-balancing and capacity management as standard within the list price. It features 15,000 RPM SAS discs, allowing customers to create a tiered storage environment when combined with EqualLogic 7,200 RPM SATA products.

EqualLogic has also recently extended its storage virtualisation strategy by including thin provisioning in the PS3900XV. A key new feature, thin provisioning is a method of storage resource management and virtualisation that lets IT administrators limit the allocation of actual physical storage to what applications immediately need. It enables the automatic addition of capacity on demand up to pre-set limits, so that IT departments can avoid buying and managing excessive amounts of disk storage. This improves utilisation and scalability while helping to reduce total storage costs.

Now in its fourth year, The Storage Awards brings together the individuals and companies that have developed innovative products to address evolving storage requirements such as regulatory changes and increasing capacity demands. This award was accepted by EqualLogic at a gala dinner on 14th June 2007 at The Tower Hotel in London.
