Server Virtualisation Adoption Passes Tipping Point as Businesses Wake Up to Business Value
- Server Virtualisation Sounds Death Knell for Complex Multi-Management Systems as Businesses Get Tough on IT Performance and Efficiency
- Companies With High Growth Strategies Allocating More IT Budget to Innovative Technology
- 90 Per Cent of Businesses Are in the Process of Adopting Server Virtualisation According to Analyst House Quocirca
London, 12th October 2006, EqualLogic, the leading provider of complete, enterprise-class iSCSI storage area networks (SANs), says that it is seeing clear evidence of businesses turning to server virtualisation and away from expensive alternatives to rid themselves of costly and needless business inefficiency and duplication of effort.
According to Paul Klinkby-Silver, EqualLogic’s European vice president, businesses are still almost exclusively focussed on the bottom line with regard to IT implementations. By forgoing investments in IT innovation, companies are passing up opportunities to gain a competitive advantage or to fundamentally change the rules in their industries.
A recent research report carried out by Quocirca Research among 1,500 large organisations (over 1,000 employees) in a range of vertical markets, highlights that over 73 per cent of business interviewed have a good understanding of the benefits of server virtualisation. Almost 60 per cent of businesses are already implementing server virtualisation technology and almost 70 per cent of businesses see server virtualisation as a key element of their IT strategies moving forward.
“It seems that businesses are starting to understand the value of getting fewer resources to work harder, scaling infrastructure without impacting resources and simplifying deployment, management and growth while minimising application downtime,” comments Klinkby-Silver.
Clive Longbottom, service director at analyst house Quocirca argues: “Virtualisation is definitely being viewed as a silver bullet for organisations today. Already, seven out of every ten of the 1,500 organisations we spoke to were involving server virtualisation as key elements of IT strategies moving forward. The tide has turned for this technology.
“The situation is past tipping point, with a growing number of organisations now looking at IT implementations with an aggressive, venture capital approach to sweating assets and getting quick returns in the form of business efficiency and service functionality. This can be effectively achieved through server virtualisation.”
Klinkby-Silver concludes: “An important part of our strategy moving forward lies in our integration strategy with VMware’s virtual infrastructure software — including the new iSCSI-enabled VMware ESX Server, a part of VMware Virtual Infrastructure 3. EqualLogic is also part of the VMWare Technology Alliance Program, and the combination of EqualLogic storage and VMware virtual infrastructure solutions enables businesses to simplify IT operations and adapt nimbly to changing demands, ensuring business continuity and enhancing organisational success. All the evidence points to this being the ideal way forward.”
